Irish Distillers introduce the oldest ever Irish whiskey collection, Midleton Very Rare Silent Distillery Collection, designed by Nude Brand Creation
Irish Distillers is releasing a collection of 48 bottles of Ireland’s oldest ever whiskey collection, Midleton Very Rare, renowned as the Pinnacle of Irish Whiskey, is produced in the Midleton Distillery, Co, Cork, Ireland. Designed by Nude Brand Creation, the peated single malt whiskey was distilled in 1974 and has been maturing since then.
Midleton Very Rare Silent Distillery Chapter One will be the first official release from Old Midleton Distillery in 16 years. There has been a distillery in Midleton for almost 200 years and it has remained operational during the Great Famine, the War of Independence and the Civil War.
Now, it is about to make a little bit of history of its own.
Made up of six releases, there will be one release annually until the year 2025, ranging in age from 45 to 50 years old. All will be from the Old Midleton Distillery, which operated from 1825 to 1975. The first release is a 45-year-old Irish single malt. The final release will coincide with Old Midleton Distillery's 200th birthday.
In creating a vessel worthy of carrying the liquid Jewel of the Midleton crown, Nude sought to honour tradition whilst delivering a contemporary aesthetic through a unique timeless form. A work of art created especially for this once-in-a lifetime distillation.
The beautiful hand blown crystal decanter is the very embodiment of all that Midleton Irish Whiskey represents. With a proud elegant stature and meticulous detailing, the hand crafted glass combines time honoured and contemporary skills.
One by one they are hand-blown and shaped before being cut and etched by the craftsmen at Ireland’s world-renowned House of Waterford. Understated confident branding reassures, whilst the craft and liquid take centre stage. The cut clarity of the decanter is complimented by a matt signature line that flows from the shoulder and plunges vertically through the bottle. This matt texture adds a richness that is paralleled in the liquid itself, and a smoothness that defines Midleton Irish Whiskey. Crowned with copper adornments in reference to the Midleton single pot still traditions this incredibly rare and precious liquid is presented in a decanter befitting of it’s contents.
Each precious bottle from the Midleton Very Rare Silent Distillery collection is presented in a bespoke cabinet. Nude’s design parallels the whiskey’s rich complexity of character along with a smoothness that defines Midleton Irish Whiskey. Hand-made by John Galvin, an award-winning Irish designer and woodworker who was born in County Cork, just a few miles from Old Midleton Distillery. Their delicately flowing lines echoing the design of the decanter, the cabinets are a precise fusion of prized American walnut, sterling silver and premium leather. Each individually crafted, Galvin’s eye for detail delivers exquisite finishing touches that include traditional hand-etching and oak wood aged up to 200 years from ancient reclaimed Irish whiskey vats.
“ The launch of Midleton Very Rare Silent Distillery Collection represents a new Chapter in the history of not only Midleton Very rare but indeed Irish Whiskey itself, as we launch Ireland’s Oldest ever Whiskey Collection. It is also a landmark moment in placing Irish whiskey, in general and Midleton Very Rare in particular, in the very top echelons of global luxury spirits. With so much experience in prestige pack design, it seemed only fitting that Nude would be our partner packaging agency on this product ”
